Space tourism, Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa to be the first tourist to travel to the moon Written: December 2019
Updated: January 2020

Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa is to be the first tourist to travel to space on SpaceX's 'Moon loop', and he is looking for that special someone to join him.

In 2018, Elon Musk, owner of the private American aerospace manufacturer SpaceX, revealed that the first tourist to travel to the moon will be the Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa. This mission, which will be the first manned moon mission since NASA’s Apollo 17 mission in 1972, will take place in SpaceX’s Big Falcon Rocket, a rocked system first revealed in 2017 and still under construction. Once completed, the rocket is expected to stand 118 meters high and have a diameter of 9 meters2.

Back in 2018, Mr. Maezawa was first reported to have said he would invite six to eight artists to travel to the moon with him2. This idea now seems to have changed into taking one lucky lady. Mr. Maezawa is looking for a “special someone”, a “life partner” to join him on this trip to the moon. To find this lucky lady, Mr. Maezawa has opened an online application that every woman could apply to.

Women applying must meet the following conditions: be single, 20 years and over, bright, always positive, interested in traveling into space (logically) and wish for world peace.1 I wonder if I could pass for a woman if i wear a wig...

Update January 2020:

Applications have now closed and selection is on the way. If you applied after reading this and you are selected to travel to the moon, don’t forget about me, I do expect to be the first one to interview you afterwards!

On his website1, Mr. Maezawa writes: “As feelings of loneliness and emptiness slowly begin to surge upon me, there's one thing that I think about: Continuing to love one woman.” and “I want to shout our love and world peace from outer space.”

Mr. Maezawa and his lucky lady will not set foot on the moon though. Their trip only involves a tour around the far side of the moon and then back to Earth.2
